Stay in Shape at IndiGO BCS

April 25, 2017

April showers bring May flowers, which is what we’re hoping for as a reward for recent rain and cloudy days. If it holds off long enough for a road race, Saturday would be a great day to lace up those sneakers and get outside for a good cause. The University of Minnesota is hosting its first ever Sweat for STF 5K—an event to help raise money for scholarships for young women in developing nations who seek educational opportunities.

In addition to this inaugural event, there are several other races happening around the area as well, and each supports a different cause. The Friends of FANA 5K runs on Saturday at Phalen Regional Park and, for those who have been training hard or simply like the extra challenge, the Falls Dualthon might be your best fit. It includes a two-mile run, followed by a 14-mile bike ride, and then another three-mile dash to the finish line. We’re exhausted just thinking about it!

Whether you like running for the sport, the spirit, or to be supportive, it’s the season for races. With several more filling up the calendar in the months ahead, will we see you at the starting line?

Weekend Happenings

Art comes in many forms and all types are represented in some fashion this weekend. For starters, it’s the last chance to catch the free photography exhibit at Mill City Museum reflecting the past 35 years of musical greatness.

It’s also the weekend of the Saint Paul Art Crawl, which started back in the late 70s, and has grown into a yearly event that attracts nearly 20,000 visitors and features over 300 artists each year. It’s spotlighted studios in the Lowertown neighborhood since its inception, but has since expanded to the Downtown, Eastside, and Westside neighborhoods, too. Getting there is made easy since the Metro will be offering free rides for the art crawl all weekend long.

Then, for the art of runway style, Fashion Week Minnesota promises a week’s worth of design, accessories, panels, and parties. The Art in Bloom Fashion Show & Luncheon on Friday will feature looks from local designers and Galleria Edina shops while serving up a multi-course Italian meal to ticketed guests.

Photography, music, art, and fashion—it’s simple a snapshot of what the weekend has in store. With a little planning, you can catch every minute of a minute of the action.
